Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Let us know if you have any questions that you don’t see answered here and we will get right back with you and add your question to the list below. Thanks!
Starting as early as September and sometimes going through as late as May, we do offer longer term rentals. You will need to contact us for details and availability.
If you need to cancel more than 45 days in advance of your arrival, your deposit will be refunded in full. If you cancel after that time, we will refund your deposit if we can rent the cottage to another guest. If not, we will hold your deposit and apply it to a future date prior to May 1st of the next year.
Normal check in is at 3:00 pm and check out is 10:00 am. Contact us about a week before your stay if you want to come early or stay a little later. If we don’t have another guest leaving or coming right next to your stay and can get the cottage cleaned in time, we will work out a good time for you.
If you are booking through one of our partners (HomeAway, VRBO, TripAdvisor, etc) they will handle payments and terms. If you are booking directly with us, we will email you an invoice for the deposit to hold the reservation. This deposit is 50% of the total bill. You can pay that online with a credit card or PayPal account. If you prefer to mail us a personal check or drop by and pay with cash, please contact us to work out the details. The remaining 50% is due on arrival. We will be sending you a final invoice after the deposit is paid. We will also remind you of the amount due about one week before your arrival. If the reservation is short lead time, we may require full payment up front.
We collect $100 Security deposit to cover any incidental damage that may occur during your stay. Typically, this deposit will be refunded after a successful cottage inspection within seven days after your departure. If you book with one of our partners (HomeAway, VRBO, TripAdvisor, etc) they handle the security deposit administration. If you booked directly with us, we will refund you based on how your payments were made, usually refunding your credit card or PayPal account or mailing you a check. The costs of any damage will be deducted from the deposit and any damage in excess of $100 will still be the responsibility of the renter. We will discuss with the renter any damages noted and the associated costs.
As a friendly request, please do not alter anything in the cottage. If you would like something moved or changed, check with us first. A few examples: do not move the furniture (like cabinets), to not remove nails or nail things to the walls, or do not remove the window screens. Basically, treat the cottage like your own place, we will be happy to return your security deposit.
Damage may occur, which can happen of course, please tell us honestly and we will work with you to resolve the matter.
The cottages come with basic pots, pans, dishes, cups, flatware, coffee maker, microwave, etc. that you should need. You will need to bring your own hair dryer and shower soaps, shampoo etc. If you miss something after you arrive, let us know and we will likely have it at the house for your use.
While there is a charcoal grill at each cottage, you will need to bring your own charcoal and lighter fluid.
The cottages come with pillows and light summer blankets for each bed. You will need to bring your own bed linens and towels, including kitchen towels. We do have linens and towels available for an additional $10 per bed per week.
You will also need to bring your own paper products such as paper towels, napkins, and toilet paper.
Within a 5 minute drive from Lakeside Melodies, there are two 24 hour stores (Meijer and Walmart) where you can buy just about anything you forgot.
Yes, the water has been tested and is completely fine for use. That said, it is well water and high in iron content. You might consider bringing some drinking water. We live here as well and use the water for cooking and tea and coffee.
Other than in our Music Hall, YES! (The Music Hall is fully carpeted and we need to keep it as allergy free as possible) We are pet friendly and happy to have your little family members join you. The pet fee is $30 per stay for up to 2 pets. This has to do with the extra cleaning. We want all our guest to start with a pet hair free vacation. All pets must remain on a leash when outside the cottages. You are allowed to keep them on a long leash near the cottage. Because some of our guests suffer from allergies, pets can NOT be allowed in the bedrooms or on the furniture. If your pet will be on the furniture, please bring a cloth to cover the couch and chairs in respect for future guests. Pets should not be left alone in the cottages unless they are in a pet crate. Animals should be under supervision at all times.
Smoking is not allowed in any of the buildings at Lakeside Melodies. You may smoke outside but please take care to not leave cigarette butts anywhere on the property.
Of course we want you to have the best vacation ever, but your fellow guests want the same. Lots of people come to Lakeside Melodies for the nice peaceful surroundings and tranquility. For that reason, we ask our guests to keep the volume of the CD/radio and television at a level that is not disturbing to other guests. After 10 pm, we kindly ask that you not make too much noise outside so that other guests may sleep.
Campfires are fun! Each cottage has access to a campfire ring near their cottage. A few remarks:
– Don’t leave young children alone at the fire.
– Stay with your fire and keep an eye on it to make sure it is safe.
– Make sure when you leave, that the fire is out and the situation is safe.
You can ask Bill if there is any wood available, there might be some stacked next to the campfire area or you can pick up sticks in the woods. There is also firewood available for purchase in Three Rivers.
In a word…GREAT! Little Pleasant lake is a 30 acre lake that is listed as 45 feet deep which means it is a great place for fish to flourish. It is filled with blue gill, crappie, perch, large mouth bass, and occasionally catfish and gar fish. It is connected to Pleasant Lake by the little creek that runs through our property. It has been reported that there are pike in Pleasant Lake, but we haven’t seen any pulled from our lake. There are also lots of turtles and frogs and other lake wildlife. There is also only one other home on the lake with no public access site, so we basically have the lake to ourselves!
Yes, the lake is considered a public lake and therefor a license is required for anyone 17 years old or older. Kids fish free!
We have three row boats, three canoes, and two kayaks. For $10 per day and a max of $50 per stay, you can use all of the boats. All the guests do share them, but rarely are they all in use. Just check in with us at the house if you want to use any of the boats.
We have plenty of life jackets for all the boats. We ask that they not be used for swimming and there are often swim floats and toys around the beach that you can use.
Since there is no public access or ramp on our property, the only boats you can get on our lake are ones that can be carried from the parking area to the lake like canoes, kayaks, or light fishing boats. The lake is a no wake lake and therefor no motors larger than 10 hp are allowed. That said, there are five all sports lakes within a few miles with public access ramps where you can drop your boat and fish, ski, or motor around. We have plenty of parking for your boat and trailer too.
